In Lightwave it was very easy to create this with a grid and a click of a button.
is there an easy way to do the same in Houdini 18

You can set up AOV’s in mantra that will give you direct/indirect shadow and the same for refections.
you can then use cryptomatte to isolate objects in your scene for comp.

another way to do a shadow receiver is by assigning a shadow matte shader to the grid, you will see the shadow in the alpha channel, and should be able to visualize it in mplay if you have a background image active.

there is unfortunately no one button solution
