I've created a little UI utility for quickly searching Google, YouTube, or the SideFx forums directly from Houdini. Save your self some keystrokes/mouse drags!

So you did mention that it has been tested on Windows. However, I'm only using Linux Debian 11. To try and solve the issues I've updated Houdini to 19.5.368.

Installation:

Copy Web_Search.shelf to the toolbar directory in your Houdini user preferences folder.

For example, on Windows: C:\Users\Primary User\Documents\houdini19.5\toolbar

You should now see "Web Search" as an availble shelf in the "Add Shelf" drop down.

Two issues:

1. Your tool will be a Tool (called Web Search) to add on a shelf, and not actually an entire shelf. I got stuck first expecting an actual shelf with tools in it (as with another asset, and my own shelves). Finally it was solved with an empty shelf and just doing "Edit shelf tab" and "Web Search" was available.

2. The module "webb" was not found. So I installed it into my system python with pip, however it is still not available with Houdini.

Maybe it is simple and easy on Windows however.
Interested in character concepts, modeling, rigging, and animation. Related tool dev with Py and VEX.

I've fixed the import issue and added an additional "I'm Feeling Lucky" functionality.
