Unable to remove piece of the geo

Hi,

I've been recently trying out a Houdini tutorial on YT and bumped into a weird roadblock.... not sure if I can explain in precise words as I'm still a beginner..

Basically part of the tube was split from itself and it's impacting the particle simulation. when I try to isolate the issue by removing some of the nodes, it looks there might be something with the patch deform node, and when I run the sim the "ghost geo" for lack of better wording is also emulating the color ramp on the particles impacting the overall final result.
