Unfortunately 21 still crashes every 90 seconds or so on Nobara 42.
I hope that this can get resolved soon. Is it working well on Fedora 42? Can anybody confirm it is working or not in other Wayland only distros? Thanks!

I am working great on Rocky Linux 10. There is an issue with mouse scrolling, but that is being fix in a future update.

Hey I did a system update and sync which updated my Nvidia drivers to 580.76.05 as well... and voila now it works without crashes!

So houdini 21.0.440 seems to work fine on Nobara 42 Wayland!

Awesome!

Can confirm, on first glance everything works on Fedora 42 Wayland with Nvidia driver. Will report if I encounter any issues later. After seeing it crash for years in this configuration, this is very inspiring!

I've found this env variable fixes mouse issues in qt6 build/wayland
both in network view and when scrolling goes crazy (like disappearing parameter pane)

QT_XCB_NO_XI2 = 1

(so you can put in houdini.env)

i guess it's mostly connected to widgets that tries to work both for touch and mouse events
not sure if it's houdini specific but could be used as a workaround

Great find! I can confirm that it indeed fixes the scrolling issue.

Well I'll be a son of a gun! Can confirms that works on CachyOS, too! For anyone wondering how to do it, on Cachy I simply added the line to the following file using sudo nano:

/etc/environment

Now, if anyone can figure out how to make Houdini play nice with Nvidia drivers after 580, that'd be the last missing link for me. I managed to track down that it's an XID error 69 that happens when the UI freezes, but I haven't been able to figure out what to do with that information LOL.

I had to go back to 580.126.20... the newest 595.58.03 is a no go :-(.. UI freezes up too much.

Same 590 did, too. I was hoping with 595 it'd be fixed. The AI showed me how to find that XID error, but none of the suggestions it gave for fixing it worked.

I can confirm that mouse wheel is working on Fedora 43, thanks for the find!

I do however have another weird issue with my Wacom tablet where it inverts the buttons that I set up on the control settings it does not happen on X11 anyone else having this issue?

About the stability I think it was much more unstable on Nvidia driver 580, on 590 I feel it is better but sometimes I got some weird freezes when I after start to use XPU I guess but I will try too pin down exactly when it happens.

should we report bugs we encounter, or is it not worth it since wayland isn't officially supported?
Thanks,

Evan
