Hi,

I recently purchased Houdini Indie and cannot activate my licenses on Windows.

My licenses appear in the SideFX website’s License Manager, but they are still marked as “Not redeemed.” I received the Houdini Online Services activation email and activated my account.

When I try to sign in through the licensing interface, I get this error:


Houdini Server (C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini Server\hserver.exe) exited with code 1 before it answered the sign-in request.
C:/Program Files/Side Effects Software/Houdini Server/hserver.exe: Invalid options given: unknown escape sequence
I have also encountered a separate error in License Administrator:

Failed to login to user account: Your password is not stored by sidefx.com. You must log in via a third party.

I normally sign in to the SideFX website using Google. For License Administrator, I tried the email address from the activation message and the password I set during activation, but I still could not sign in.

I tried removing the existing installation and starting over, but the hserver error persists.

Could someone please explain how to fix the “unknown escape sequence” error and activate my purchased licenses? Which configuration files or diagnostic information should I check?
