With Houdini Master (Apprentice):
It doesn't matter what I'm doing … sooner or later, mostly sooner, I get a “Fatal error: Segmentation Fault” and a message that my work has been saved.

I've tried both 6.0.286 and 6.0.340

Next, I will try replacing my nvidia drivers. If anyone has any suggestions as to which version would work best, please let me know.

My system:

W2kPro SP4
Asus P4T533-C, 512 Rdram, P4 2.3 ghz
Geforce 4 ti-4400 w/ 41.09 drivers.

I've now tried several display driver revisions and nothing has helped. I even updated my motherboard bios. Obviously I have nothing running in the background either. The same goes for unnecessary services.

I've been meaning to make the jump to linux for some time now. Hopefully this problem won't haunt me there too, once I get it all set up.

Meanwhile, should anyone know anything about segmentation faults, whether on windows or linux, please do speak up.

Hi, I may be way off, but try removing your memory DIMMS cleaning the contacts and replacing them. I'm no stranger to segmentation faults either, but since I moved to Linux they've been few and far between, at least during a session. Houdini almost always crashes on exit though… strange

Good Luck

Thank you for your advice.

However, I am fairly sure my ram is “clean” not to mention my cabinet in general, which I regularly clean for dust with pressurized air.

I have not yet made the move to linux, as I'm in the process of doing my homework on which distro I should use, plus learning linux basics in general. Once I do make the move, I will be sure to drop a note in this thread whether my problem got cleared.
