Actually I'm not sure that's been re-implemented yet! Last I heard there's a flag to auto generate the envmap but there's nothing there to indicate it's name, etc. In the meantime, I think you'll need to do it the old-fashioned way(a cam where the object is, etc.). If I'm wrong, someone set me straight.

It works, simply add the following rendering parameters to your object (from which you want to “see” the environment") by clicking on the gear icon and choosing them from the left pane:
- auto-generate environment map (render_envmap)
- pixel samples (vm_samples)
- resolution (res)
- output picture (vm_picture)
I recommend rendering a .rat file. Mantra will render an environment map automatically before rendering the frame if it is setup to do so (see the mantra ROP -> properties -> Render -> Auto-Generate etc.

Wow, thanks Abdelkareem, I didn't know that.
This is a classic example of something pretty non-intuitive(adding ‘vm_picture’ to a geo wouldn't have been a first guess), and I couldn't find anything referencing this in the help using search, anyway. Maybe needs a walkthrough in the help(or if there, a keyword or two added in search).
