macbook pro temperature during render

Hi, I run houdini apprentice HD on my brand new macbook pro 2.6 .. and I'm really worried about the temperature of my CPU during renders or simulation solving… ( it went until 103° C not later than today)

so I was wondering if it was a “normal issue” and I can render safely with just using a fan control for render times .. or if I should run to an apple store kicking and whining…

I found a big bunch of topics about this all over the net … but it's obviously not about that kind of greedy software…

thanks for your answers

Try smcFan Controller, and set your default fan speed higher. You can also try coolbook controller(undervolting utility).I do not know if the Santa Rosa C2D MBPs are supported.. check the website).

my pc never goes over 52C… you should definitely have this checked out… it's possible the thermometer may be malfunctioning… but if it is in fact going to 100C you should get this checked out before something gets fried

thanks for your answers , I did install smc fan controller and seems pretty effective

but the thing is that I'd like to have opinion of macbook pro users .. this machine seems to be a little different of other laptops .. I've heard everything about it (“over 50°c is dangerous” and “don't worry 90°c are fine” )

so if you macbook pro users guys could tell me what's the temperature of your CPU during a render (or after a few minuts)

I could make myself an idea of what is “the standard”

thank you again

hi jlautret,

i think 103°C is not ok. the cpu in my macbook pro 2.16 never goes over
about 80°C (during a 3-day rendering).
