Hi!
I'm trying to install Houdini (the newest daily build and the newest stable release behaves the same - this is 10.0.)
When I'm installing it on fedora 12 on my desktop computer everything is ok, but when I'm trying to install it on my laptop, something goes wrong - while installing it on the end of installation the installer is stopping the license serwer - this takes very very long and after the time there is an error:
“Stopping Houdini License server FAILED” and the setup process continues and installs the houdini to the end.

But after installation I simply cannot stop license server - when I'm trying to do it i always get the same message (failed).
I saaw here a topic about something simmilar: http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&p=46992&sid=054dd60ebaee8b4abdb6afe989b64b77 [sidefx.com]
and I changed the /etc/hosts file from something like:

127.0.0.1 localhost <your hostname>
to
127.0.0.1 localhost
<your real ip> <your hostname>

Then I uninstalled houdini and uninstalled the sesinetd service - when I was trying to install it again - the same problem appears

What shoul I do?

for the non commercial use, it's probably best to use local licensing instead of sesinetd. You can choose local licensing in one of the the installation steps.

As for the inability to stop the license server, perhaps the hserver is trying to connect to the invalid host (try hserver -l and make sure the host name matches your computer name).

Another reason maybe permissions. If sesinetd runs as root, you may need to run sesictrl as root as well.
