in houdini you can build anything at all.
mostly people Model thing in other Apps and then bring them into Houdini to explote them, break them, flunk them Etc…

modeling itself is just extrude and move vertex around.
try doing a box, set it to be polygons select a polygon (call primitives in houdini) and then “Poly Extrude ” it, then seelct the polys you want and “Subdivide” them from the upper right shelf .
the cool thing with Houdini is that you can make them digital assets, imagine that you can set anything, where you move sliders around and magicly changes (well not magictly, you need to magicly set it up
or if something dosnt like the director just go steps back and change the parameter.

Most character workflows (at least for highres characters) these days are more like:

- Build rough basemesh
- Export that to a sculpting application like ZBrush/Mudbox/3DCoat/etc
- Sculpt the actual model there
- Retopologize the model
- Bake out displacement maps
- Re-import the retopo-mesh, UVs and displacement maps into the host application

So for Houdini you could grab generic poly modeling tutorials, since the basemeshes are usually fairly simple.
