Copy stamping $PT or $CY is logical enough ie you are stamping the prim number of a polygon or a point. But what happens if you want to count the number of groups for use in a copy sop.
argc(primgroupmask(“../file1”, “grp_letter_*”)) . primgroupmask lists all the groups and argc will count how many listed items there are. Just thought it might be handy info for people learning.

At this point you are treading on the ground of the For Each SOP.
ForEach “is” Copy Stamp'ing but in a more controlled fashion and it has direct support for group processing in turn and more. ForEach came out of Copy Stamping insanity that we were getting in to.
I am certainly guilty of Copy Stamping like this to do crazy group processing but alas the For Each makes this quite elegant and haven't had to do this for quite some time now.
A nice example none the less. For completeness, I have added a ForEach SOP to do the same thing.
