hello,
when writing out foam/bubbles to bgeos.sc files , the files are very big (500 MB/frame), and it takes a long time to simulate.
Is there a way to reduce these sizes during simulation..?
Main water body and splash are ok..
thanks

hello,
I got a FLIP sim and want to write it out to disk.
What is the best method?
I don't want the blue cache line, because for the moment I got little ram (4GB)..
thanks,

Are you sure you can't just use .mp4 which pretty much replaced .mov files. They're practically the same thing according to wikipedia. On Linux, mplay just calls out to ffmpeg to do the encoding and ffmpeg supports .mov files as well. There's just no default preset for mplay to call ffmpeg to write out .mov files. You can add your own if you want. See http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini14.0/mplay/mplay_movie_export [sidefx.com]
thanks Edward,
I had to install ffmpeg…

Hello,
I want to render with 3delight, and everything is setup.
I set Diplay device to “I-Display” in the renderman ROP.
When hitting the Render button, I get this message in the terminal window:
i-display: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_bytes_unref
dspy_idisplay: cannot start ‘i-display’ application
3DL ERROR D2004: failed to open display driver ‘idisplay’ (display driver returned ‘4’)
3DL ERROR D2094: failed to open display driver ‘idisplay’ (display driver returned with a null handle)
When setting Display device to “framebuffer” I got this error message:
i-display: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_bytes_unref

3DL ERROR D2004: failed to open display driver ‘framebuffer’ (display driver returned ‘4’)
3DL ERROR D2094: failed to open display driver ‘framebuffer’ (display driver returned with a null handle)
What can this be?
Using H14.0.201.13 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
thanks

Hello,
I made a simple fluid sim with a sphere, a liquid container and source from volume (activated the first frame).
When I run the sim the fluid ‘sphere’ falls down in the container, but it produces a lot more fluid.
I does not behave like the earlier Houdini “Fluid Object” shelf tool that now is missing.
How can I solve this?
I'm doing this tutorial (begining):
http://www.cmivfx.com/tutorials/view/163/Houdini+Fluid+Effects+For+TD%5C%27s [cmivfx.com]
using H12.1
thanks,

thanks circusmonkey,
but where can I find those exported parameters?
Is it possible to post an example hip?

Hey ya'll. If you follow the instructions in the docs to export a shader variable you can do this.
http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini10.0/rendering/deeprasters [sidefx.com]
The parameter can be named whatever you want (as long as on the Mantra ROP you enter the same name in the Extra Image Planes parm). You should plug into it the following:
hello
I want an extra image plane with the Worldspace pass.
How can I fo this with the Mantrasurface material?

Since I read great things about Houdini 12 and the improved viewport, I installed both the latest build and the production solid one. They both crash on my system (Fatal error: Segmentation Fault)
Doing some research, it seems Houdini 12 does not play nice with the later drivers, and vice versa. I tried 12.4, and 12.6. Downgrading to a lower version is not an option for me.
What is it these days with all the driver/opengl issues and 3d software? Are we forced to buy overly priced Quadros, which in my experience do not improve the viewport performance at all, unless special drivers are written (such as for Max and Maya)?
I downloaded Houdini with great expectations, and I have been downloading trials/free educational versions of all commercial 3d applications to decide on which one to purchase for a complex project. Houdini is the *only* one not to work. Please fix this Side Effects - you are losing customers.
hello,

hello,
I know it's not a 3delight forum, but I'v installed the latest 3delight.(10.0.4 linuxx86_64)
I want to try it with houdini.
In the manual they say I have to source the .3delight_bash , but I don't find it in this install.
How am I to go about to install 3delight to use with houdini…?
Which environment variables do I have to set, and most important where is the .3delight_bash file.
Now I get the error “renderdl: error while loading shared libraries: lib3delight.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory”, when I type ‘renderdl’ in the terminal.
I would be great if I get some solutions for this topic.
thanks,
bern
