Hi,
i need help on rendering soft raytraced shadows in houdini.
i have tried one way with light template and attacthin VEX Blur shadows attribute but thts very imprecise as i am unable to use normal lights. i have to use a light template and attach a light for light properties and vex blur shadow to control the shadow properties.

is there a way that u can attach an attribute to normal light to render soft raytraced shadows as in Maya u can attach renderman attribute to the light to get this result.

You could try using an Area Light, with Raytraced Shadows.

If you add to *any* of Houdini's lights “shop_lightpath” property it will overwrite a shader which is build in light. The same goes with shadow shader (“shop_shadowpath”). Apply VEX Blur Shadow shader to newly added parameter and render soft shadows with standard light.

Alternatively follow Jason's advice. Area Light gives nice results
