This is my first time posting on the houdini forum and I hope someone can help me figure this out. The version of Houdini that I'm using is 13.0.314.

My instructor said that It may be a graphical issue, but then again, other people who have much older computer spec is still able to run Houdini without a problem.

Computer spec

Model: h8-1020
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600S CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz
installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GT 430 1024MB DDR3
Operating system: Windows 8 Ultimate

So the problem that I'm facing right now is that every few minute or so (at most 3 minutes) all the visual elements within Houdini would suddenly disappear and to bring them back, I would need to go to Preferences > 3D viewports, and under “Scene Renderer” I need to change that between : GL 1.1, GL 2.1, GL 3.3. Every 1-3 minutes, I will need to perform this task in order to bring back the objects when it will disappear. It used to be every 10 minutes but not it's shrinked down to 1-3 minutes at random. This is getting very frustrating just to work in Houdini that I have to keep the Houdini Preferences tab open at ALL time.

Another problem that I'm having with Houdini is that it will suddenly crash when I'm working on something (about 10 minutes at the most), whether it be small or bit; it just crashes for no reason. I'm fine with the crashing because with the constant crashing, I've developed a habit of saving my work every few steps or every few minutes.

If someone can help me figure out the reason for the visual elements disappearing in the 3D viewport, that would be great!

Thanks in advance!

Try increasing the OpenGL Cache size to something like 2GB (Windows> Cache Manager, OpenGL Cache: 2048).
