In the quickstart tutorial “Network Editor | Align Nodes”

The technique is to align nodes either verticaly or horizontaly is by first holding down the alt key then left mouse click and drag in the vertical or horizontal direction of choice for what you want.

I can do this but only if I quickly go back and forth horizontaly/verticaly.

In the video she simply looks like she is only doing as she says; Just left click mouse and drag in desired direction.

I am wondering maybe if there is some system setting for my mouse that is interferring with getting the same effect.

I went into preferences and tried to adjust the ‘shake distance’ since I thought it might have an effect because I have to use the same behaviour as what we normally have to do by selecting a wire to disconnect it.

If anyone is having the same behaviour as me and could chime in, please do post.

Align nodes by holding down the ‘A’ key, not the ‘Alt’ key. I'm hoping that's the problem here…
The shake distance is not used in the align gesture detection.

Sorry my bad…I meant to say A …which is what I am doing like in the video.

And I only tried shake distance, just to try something different and see, because it definitely requires that I do a shake to get the result.

Maybe there's something going on with my mouse or it's sensitivity settings.

Not going to log a bug on this…will give it a while and see if anyone else has this issue.

If your mouse is jittering that might explain the issue (sending random intermittent moves in the opposite direction to what you are actually moving the mouse). And shaking the mouse you may just get lucky sometimes that the mouse makes a large enough unidirectional path to trigger the alignment… Could you try a different mouse, just to test this theory? If this is the issue I can look into making the “swipe” detection more robust in the face of small jitters.

Ok…I will look for another mouse and give it a whirl.

But that may be a while. I've just realized I have to go back to H15, because I just started doing my leaving computer on overnight for renders on my Project. And I just tried to start rendering but there are so many ‘unrecognized’ paramters with H16 ( I think mostly shaders but sims too ) I can't get any renders at all. Have to look into how the license part works out too, switching back and forth.

Thanks for you feedback.

For whatever reason, just by switching mice, I no longer have the issue of needing to do ‘shake’ mouse movements.

Now I also can see “swipe” detection may be made more robust. But that's more of a user preference. Not everyone will have the same preference.

Think it's probably best just to leave it as is. Even though I would prefer it to detect an initially more slower movement.

If there's a desire for user defined “swipe” like a slider bar in settings somewhere probably should be best put in as an RFE.

Thanks for the feedback mtucker.
