Hi all,

I'm rendering this artsy scene (attached hip file) .. but even though I have orange and white colors for the inside geometries, they render with a black material… what could this be?

Any input welcome. Thanks!
m.

Your outer torus object enveloping the rest of your geos does cast shadows onto the little spheres and wires in the middle, blocking the light entirely. Consequently they come out black.

Cheers,

hmm, but I’m raytracing, so shouldn’t the shadow be ‘transparent’ with a glass material?

is there a specific setting for this?

thanks for the help so far!

If you enabled Fake Caustics under Opacity tab in the principled shader, it should fix that issue if I'm not mistaken.

Assuming you're using principled shader as I encounter it before when practising Mantra rendering.

You asked “why” things come out black when not painted black and i can look up the sky at night and answer. But if you ask why “Why”? …Can't help. I don't know a thing about raytracing nor Mantra for that matter, never rendered a single project with it, never will.

But i found that thread might be interesting to you.
