Our Los Angeles location is currently seeking a FX Lead for our upcoming season beginning in August. This is a long term freelance booking through April 2019.
The FX Lead needs to have solid effects skills as well as strong organizational, administrative, leadership, and communication skills. This role is responsible for providing day to day performance feedback to the other fx artists on our team, but also needs to be able to work independently on smaller projects. Previous experience in a leadership role, with particular experience providing constructive artistic and job performance feedback, is highly desired.
Responsibilities
- Design, create and implement high quality photo-real effects including Water, Fire, Smoke, Explosions,
- Clouds, Debris, Magical, and Conceptual utilizing Houdini.
- Design, create and implement efficient methods, tools, and workflows.
- Understand and work within the studio/show structure/pipeline.
- Comfortable taking direction from the CG supervisor and creative director.
- Work with TDs and Pipeline to improve FX processes.
- Coordinate resources and thorough understanding of optimization in order to maximize resource availability and capability.
- Collaborate regularly with the VFX Supervisor and CG Supervisor for creative approvals, technical or administrative concerns.
- Stays current with latest technologies, methods, and workflows.
- Provide feedback to your team as required.
- Great at problem solving, and devising creative solutions to complete complicated effects shots.
- Mentor and coach up and coming FX artists.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years with prior Lead experience in Film/Television or Commercials.
- Strong knowledge of and proven ability to use Houdini to develop high quality photo-real dynamic effects.
- Good understanding of renders such as Mantra and VRay.
- Experience with rigid body dynamics and particle systems.
- Adaptable to change of direction during production and in tight deadlines.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines in order to deliver on time and on budget.
- Knowledge of coding/scripting in current production languages Ie: Python, VEX, Hscript, C++, and Mel.
- Strong understanding of rendering and shading techniques and procedures.
- Understanding of breakout layers for compositing and ability to slap comp FX passes a plus.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and follow through.
- Comfortable with R&D for complicated effects.
- Must showcase a comprehensive reel demonstrating photo real capabilities.
