And no Edge-Number in Houdini 17.5

there are no edges in houdini, so wouldn't make sense to have edge number display
you can access half-edges in VEX which are sort of intrinsically defined from primitives, but edges themselves are not a class, they can't hold attributes and edge groups are not specified by “edge number” so probably that's why you can't view it
