How does one hide hair only from the display only, and not from render ?

The "Toggle Display" shelf tool seems broken.

When I select the "Hairgen" nothing happens. And when I use it on the Groom, it hides the hair from both, display and render. But when I understand the term "Display" correctly, it shouldn't hide it from render as well. Though the terms "Display" and "Render" are used rather arbitrary in Houdini.

I've been looking all over, but no solution so far.

Anyone knows the magic Houdini trick ?

Turn off the display flag on the HairGen object. The display flag on objects controls visibility in the scene view as well as the 'Candidate objects' list of renders. The ROP also has force and exclude object list to bypass the flags. Add the Hairgen to the force objects list of the render ROP to render it regardless of the state of the display flag.

Standard procedure for renders is to set candidate objects to nothing, and use force objects for anything to include in the render. This way the state of the flags doesn't matter, and the view port stays as minimal as possible.

Ha, thanks.

A bit puzzling why there's not a simple display toggle, as with the plain vanilla SOP node.

But then, this is Houdini...

There is though, it's called the display flag.
