Weird vel/mass behaviour of RBD sim

Hey,

I'm quite new to Houdini and 3d/FX in general, so sorry if it's a dumb question.

So I wedged an RBD sim of a ball destroying a brick wall based on the velocity and mass of the ball. I noticed some weird behavior I couldn't explain, so I increased the substeps of the Rigid Body Solver from 10 to 30, but the behavior didn't change at all. The mass and initial velocity are both set in the RBD Packed Object node.

So my question is: how come the ball passes through at vel=10 and 30 but bounces off at other velocities. Also, how come that mass has no noticeable effect if the ball passes through (basically all the vel=30 sims look the exact same).

Lastly, just out of curiosity I did a wedge with vel values close to 30, but it didn't get me closer to the solution. At vel=25, 33 and 40 the ball stops, while at 27 and 30 it passes through. So why is this happening? Can someone explain it to me, please?

Thanks in advance,
madorjan

(Edit: sry, I accidentally submitted my post halfway through...)
