Hi

this might be a basic question, but I can't figure out what is the best way to cache a sim , so that if I wanna pause it or something goes wrong midway I can resume from the last frame simulated. I also want to just cache the particles, not the fluid mesh as I will do that afterwards.

I thought the right way was to use the File cache after the Fluid Compress node, but from what I understood you can't resume a simulation from .bgeo files.

The other way is to cache from the DOP network node, so that you can save .sim files, which are larger but contain resumable simulation data.

Did I understand correctly?

So I do I cache .sim to a specific location from the DOP? Should I turn off compression to make the simulation faster if disk space is not a problem? Also I don't understand how checkpoints work (trail, interval etc.) and if they'd be useful in case of a crash during computing.

Thanks in advance.

Just cache your particles using File Cache as .bgeosc

And if you want resumable sim, turn on rolling checkpointing into .sim files

Thank you.

And how do I resume the simulation from a .sim or checkpoint?
