I'm starting with Solaris and I want to bring a single pieces of geo that has several different materials. Is there a way to apply that in Solaris or do I have to split the geo according to the materials and then bring it over into Solaris? Thanks.

you can use groups as "subset groups" or use different names for different parts, depending on how you want you hierarchy look like

They're all named but how to apply that in Solaris?

I see you're using "shop_materialpath" already to partition the object. In Solaris you can use a "Scene Import (All)" and everything should come in nicely. It will create GeomSubset prims for you automatically based on the material partitioning and do the USD material assignment.
