Hi everyone,

I’m Emmanuel Katto from Dubai, working on a project where I need to pass several meshes as inputs into a Houdini Digital Asset (HDA) and split them based on the value of a primitive attribute (let’s call it “name”). However, I’m running into issues when trying to pass custom attributes from Maya to Houdini using Houdini Engine.

I’ve tried adding a custom attribute in Maya, and it works if I export the geometry as FBX and import it directly into Houdini. However, when using Houdini Engine, I’m unable to get the custom attribute to pass through.

Is anyone familiar with this workflow? Is it possible to transfer custom Maya attributes into Houdini using Houdini Engine, and if so, how should I go about it?

I’d really appreciate any suggestions or solutions from anyone who has worked with this setup before. Thanks in advance for your help!

Regards
Emmanuel Katto

Would you be able to use groups instead of an attribute? If the mesh is part of any Maya sets, these sets will be created as Houdini groups.
