can you compare the cpu between AMD opteron and INTEL xeon

I think opteron cheaper and faster than xeon

OS:UBUNTU 9.04 64BIT

I want to know which cpu will be good,Amd or Intel

it is slower when I solved simulation with Fluid or others dynamic effect,

my machine is HPZ800,RAM 4g , CPU E5520,
I wonder CPUs maybe upgrade,is it?

I want to speed up dynamic simulation,can anybody give me some suggest about hardware
