Viewport behavior in 16.0.671 is different and similarly broken for Primitive Group Condition - asterisk catch-all doesn't work on render or in viewport but setting via ranges eg. 0.99 does work in render...
that last comment is when using primitives - behavior is as expected with polygons as primitive type ;)
