In this video, we are creating the underwater bubble effect from start to finish - from emission prep to rendering. It's a beginner tutorial, but we'll use a few lines of VEX. If you're not comfortable with VEX just yet, it's fine - just skip these parts and you'll still be able to create pretty results!
If you're feeling a bit adventurous and want to go even further than the tutorial, you can add extra big-bubble elements with an additional Pyro simulation and mesh them together with our particles!
But in this tutorial we'll be using a simple POP simulation and some of the basic POP nodes:
- POPforce
- POPdrag
- POPfluid
As well as several VEXpressions:
- fit01
- rand
Thank you for joining me today and I hope you enjoy the video! 😊

Hi VoxelFX,
Thanks for this great tutorial.
May I ask you how you make the background for the final rendering?
Tanks :)

Hi JordiFernandez,
Thanks, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!
The background is just a very simple gradient ramp made in AfterEffects. I'm rendering the bubbles as PNG without any background, so they're easy to adjust in AfterEffects or any other editing software. I also used the same background gradient as an adjustment layer for the bubbles to make them slightly darker towards the bottom of the shot, but it's just a creative direction here. :)
