Hello,

I'm pretty new to Houdini so bear with me.
Currently I try to make a school of tuna fish (approx. 5000-1000 fish) moving as a swarm along a path, wandering a bit, varying speeds, etc pp.
Is there a good tutorial for this kind of work? Basically I will only need position/rotation of helper objects which I then will export to FBX for rendering and geometry-parenting in 3ds max.
I switched to houdini since 3ds max's crowd sim system is so incredibly slow that I nearly explode while using it :-P

Hi! I don't know if there's a tutorial out there, but it may help to look at what the Fish School asset on Orbolt does: http://www.orbolt.com/asset/SideFX::fish_school [orbolt.com] Based on the video, it sounds like it may do many of the things you're looking for.
Writing code for fun and profit since... 2005? Wow, I'm getting old.

Have a look at cmivfx.com and search for the tutorial called “houdini flocking systems”
Worth the money! I liked it a lot.
