Hello!
I installed Houdini Apprentice today and it doesn't start - it shows splash screen for split second and then quietly shuts down - no trace in event logs.

I have win 7 pro 64 bit with SP1, intel i5, 16GB ram, gtx 570 (driver 9.18.13.3165)

I tried to run both Houdini App versions (13.0.547 and 571), same problem.
I tried to remove app data folder - no result.
Disabled AV/Firewall (Norton 360) - nothing.

Any ideas?
thanks!

maybe because of anti-virus software or others conflict

Usually Houdini make a log file in the temp directory when crashing , check this file if exist !

windows/Temp ?
nothing there - i dont think it crashes, I would rather say it quietly exits

EDIT:
there is also nothing houdini related in
C:\Users\Siegfried\AppData\Local\Temp

I went back to version 12.5.824, when I run it I get popup from hescape.exe:

Entry point not found
The procedure entry point ?PRMswitcherName@@3VPRM_Name@@A
could not be located in the dynamic link library libPRM.dll

I wonder if those two issues are connected somehow on my system

SOLVED

I had python 3.x installed on my system and it was expecting legacy version 2.x

Dear Devs,
could you please make it say something about wrong versions? not just quietly fall back?
cheers

I just had the same issue. one build was working fine, and I installed a new build, one did work and the newest crash.

I uninstall everything, deleted the licenses from windows/keys. and re did the hole installation back again, (I did it twice before it work)

now everything is fine. in my case look like the license files got wonky.
