What is the current recommended version of the nVidia kernel drivers for Linux?

I have seen vendor approval for 1.04191 and 1.06111 … what is the currently-approved version according to SideFX?

thanks,
Klaus

I'm not sure if SESI is maintaining any truly official list of recommended nvidia driver versions, but perhaps they'll jump in. My experience is that it depends heavily on the hardware, the kernel version, and whether or not you're running 32 or 64 bit. For instance, recently I went through driver hell finding a version that worked well with a PCIe card on an x86_64 kernel - there are specific issues in the system kernel related to kernel versions prior to 2.6.11 that you can find in the NVidia install notes - it was buggy as hell until I upgraded the kernel to that. Now it's running fine. I needed to go somewhat bleeding edge due to the PCIe hardware, to top it all off…

The one I'm running now is 1.0-7167 and it works very well with the XOrg framework. However, based on the above issues, you might find such recent drivers cause you endless problems!

I'd throw out your hardware/OS config and see if someone can send back a suggestion.

Cheers,

J.C.

There is a Wiki page for Graphics Card drivers - if you don't find information here, please write down what you know anyway
