Is there also such a thing to autoselect or delete unused materials in the network view?

it would be also interesting to develop that the node of unused materials will automatically displays semi-transparent.

There's no reliable way to know if a material is used or not. External files that are loaded on render can possibly reference materials in your scene, and there would be no way to track that.

A hack to see if a material is used (no guarantee that it is not used externally), is to enable dependency visualization in the network view. this will show a little triangle next to materials that are referenced by other nodes in your scene.

you can also customize those tiny triangles (have no idea why they changed it from H15.5 where it was more visible) to bigger ones.

Please, please, please, unlime, ask martinkindl83 where to find it, cause I can't - neither in Preferences nor in D both for network and viewport. Want to play with colours.
Ahh… not sure this is what you're looking for, but in Find Node (/) > you can make this (I've changed color for ClSh1)
(didn't find how to do the same for not linked materials, but maybe you will of will ask rfe):
