How can i create hierarchical parenting relationship between objects at SOP level please?

I'm rigging mechanical parts, something i never did in Houdini so far, that i'll later want to instance around in my scene. How do you go about it in H16.5 please?

Cheers,

I'd say it's better to do mechanical parts as separate objects and build the relationships there.
if you really wanted to stay at the SOP level then you could use groups or attributes to separate your components and then use the transform SOP to move stuff - and fill in the Group parameter of the transform SOP to isolate the movements.

Thanks. But that seems to be a nightmare to update pivot position and orientation to keep up with the hierarchy of groups (many) throughout the entire process.

I am not liking parenting geos at objects level and consequently having to animate rotation / translation there. Thought i should let the world know…

Hello guys,

I’m a Houdini starter and I would be really happy if there would be a simple way to make hierarchical links between transform sops in a future release! I think it would help especially with modeling/animating packaging, origami and similar stuff.

Luckily in H there are so many ways to a solution, especially with these great wrangle Nodes:-)

All the best
