Resume painting after scene reload/playmode

Hello! I'm having an issue with an asset I'm currently developing.

I can't seem to be able to resume attribute editing/painting normally (editing what's already painted) after I enter and exit playmode or reload the Unity scene.

I tested with a simple grid to make sure it wasn't the way my asset was configured. Pressing recook doesn't help.
I found a workaround where if I load a previously saved HDA preset, it seems to refresh the asset and I can resume painting.

Is there a way to fix this or is it the expected behavior ?
