Exporting Skeletal Animation to Vertex Animation Texture

I'm pretty new to Houdini, and I'm planning on using it mainly for gamedev. I've followed a couple of examples and tutorials on VAT and so far have been successful. However, when it comes to baking the animations of a skeletal rig imported as FBX from 3Ds Max, with and without point-cache, I'm unable to progress. I've read a ton of threads here as well as using Google searches, so far without any luck. The exported EXR texture is simply a single pixel width with a slightly bigger length.
I'm not sure which nodes to add to the geometry in order to satisfy Houdini. For now I simply have the imported mesh, as well as an output(null) node. I recon I need more experience, but for now I need to do a quick test to fit this pipeline to my game engine.
