I am running houdini apprentice 8.1 with ubuntu dapper on Dell GX 620 using ATI proprietary video driver(fglrx). the license administrator(hkey) exited the x window and logged me out when I tried to change the name of the license server. Then I tried ubuntu radeon driver, the result is the same.
Anyone experienced this problem? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Ching,
What graphics card do you have? How did you install the driver? After installing, did you run the aticonfig command? Did you edit the xorg.conf file to tell ubuntu to use the fglrx driver?
Open a shell, type fglrxinfo & see if you're using the ATI driver. If the output says Mesa, you'll have to edit the xorg.conf file.
Please use this wiki guide [wiki.cchtml.com] to help you with installing and/or troubleshooting. Here's another guide [help.ubuntu.com] to help you as well. Please don't use the radeon driver as that does not have 3D support.
