I had this problem for some times now. Houdini is not saving my newly added tabs. I previously removed the preference files and did set up a new desktop again, it worked a few times but now it's back to the old.

It's time-consuming to erase and setup new preference files but it's the same inefficient to create new tabs each time I open Houdini.

Just to add, the same problem is connected to a different versions of Houdini such as 17 and 18.

Is there something else worth trying?

Hey dompla,

did you press save current desktop after adding the tabs?

Yes, I did. I saved it as a new desktop.

I have resolved it by correcting Houdini.env and file paths inside it. Now everything works properly.

Hi,

I've been having the same issue with 18.0.391.

Could you please explain what to set in env file?

This is what mine looks like. I hash out between Redshift and Renderman when I switch from versions 348 and 391.

391 never saves my added shelves.

HOUDINI_DSO_ERROR = 2
PATH=“C:/ProgramData/Redshift/bin;$PATH”
HOUDINI_PATH = “C:/ProgramData/Redshift/Plugins/Houdini/18.0.348;&”

#RMANTREE=“C:\Program Files\Pixar\RenderManProServer-23.2”
#RFHTREE=“C:\Program Files\Pixar\RenderManForHoudini-23.2”
#RMAN_PROCEDURALPATH=$RFHTREE\18.0\openvdb;&
#HOUDINI_PATH=$RFHTREE\18.0;&
#PATH=$RMANTREE\bin;&

I had the same problem appearing after installing RM23, even after deleting everything related to it, my shelf was not saved on Houdini's exit like before.

The way I got around it is:

Go to the small arrow in the right to corner of the shelf and select “Save Shelf set As”
Save it to like myshelf.shelf then replace the default.shelf in /toolbar in your Houdini 18 pref directory.

Cheers.
