Rendering with mantra - taking forever to render

I am in the process of trying to render out 90 frames of an explosion that I put together for mantra, and it seems like no matter what setting I have on or off, mantra is taking forever to render something out. Current wait time is 40 minutes for 40% completion of a single frame. I selected physically based rendering instead of Ray Tracing, thinking that would help but it feels like I'm not getting anywhere with this. Tried to switch from .exr render type files to .jpg files thinking that would also help but no results.

I'm currently running a Asus Crosshair Hero VIII with a Zotac Gaming Trinity 3090 GPU, so I'm not sure why it's running so slowly.

No idea what I'm doing wrong, any assistance is super appreciated.

40 minutes to 40% sounds like it could be high, but I don't know what your scene looks like or what resolution is being rendered or how fast of a cpu is used. So it could be normal. Note that the gpu is not a factor at all with mantra.

That's Mantra for you! One thing to check is your lighting. We were chatting about this elsewhere and using the "wrong" HDR light will totally kill Mantra. There are 3 HDRs that come with Houdini in <houdiniinstallfolder>/houdini/pic/hdri. Maybe give those a try.

Your noise threshold limit is set to 0.001, there's your problem.
You listed your motherboard and GPU, but not your CPU?

What explosion is it? The new pyro stuff renders very quickly in Mantra.
Using 0.001 is telling Mantra that the direct and indirect threshold for termination is super low.
Can you share a hip file?
An image?
