Karma light spread

Hi there,
here's a really basic question. Coming from Arnold I'm used to having rectangular lights, whose spread/shadow softness i could control with a spread parameter. Somehow I cant make that functionality work in Karma. I would assume that the focus parameter is intended to do that, but it doesnt seem to have any effect on my side. Is there any trick I'm missing here?

Thank you and best regards

Focus should do it. You might have to increase the value a lot though. Also the default focus color is white which has no effect. Change the focus color to black and increase focus to 10 or 100 and you should see an effect.

I didn't have any luck with focus in the past (to mimic spread), it resulted in a poor sampling quality became unusable

The workaround is to be okay with that.

No workaround, I mentioned it during alpha cycle, where the answer also was focus which doesn't work for me, but didn't have time to prepare example in Arnold or Cycles to show how it behaves there and how clean the results are so I didn't submit more descriptive RFE
