XPU only supports USDPreviewSurface and MtlxStandardSurface ATM

Can you achieve the same effect using the MtlxStandardSurface transmission settings?
H20 XPU will have some more of the transmission settings available (eg transmission depth, dispersion etc...)

no need to wait for 20+
to get diffuse translucency check Geometry/Thin Walled checkbox in MtlxStandardSurface
that will make Subsurface act like translucency, set it to 0.5 for example and then Subsurface Color will be transmitted diffuse color and Base Color will still be directly lit diffuse color
and Subsurface Radius, Scale and Anisotropy have no effect in thin walled mode, maybe they should be disabled
