Hi,
I have to rather basic questions but can't wrap my head around them yet. Coming from maya btw.

1. I have character exporting from maya to Houdini via USD. I need to select couple polygons on mesh and apply material to that alone.
What worked on sphere created inside Houdini, insert name node, create group, then node name from group.. that works fine, go into Solaris and I can see that group and can apply material. Same process does not work on mesh imported from maya with USD.
Any tips and tricks? Maybe my export process is flawed as well.. I'm exporting animated characters to shade, light and rendering in H with KarmaXPU.

2. Another basic one, I have ground and character, and need to render character with alpha shadow that he is casting on ground plane. Seems simple but... whatever I tried.. no luck

Thank you for any help, tip sand tricks!

Ok, No1. problem solved.
Just had to import to Stage vie File sublayer, and it shows all subgroups from Maya as well so that part is actually easy fix, when you know how.
Working on shadow matte...

For #2 does the Background Plate workflow (https://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/nodes/lop/backgroundplate.html#how-to) help?
