I have set the "Non-compilable SOP Badge" to large in the "Network View Display Options" > "Context Specific Badges" yet the icon is not visible in nodes that I know that are not compilable like the object-merge or the poly-extrude for example. Does anyone know why?

because they are compilable by default

Object Merge will become noncompilable only when you specify Transform Object or set to Into This Object

if you want to test a node that's not compilable try Timeshift SOP
