Hi all,

hope this is the right place … I just upgraded to XFree 4.3.0 and now houdini says “No valid licences were found …”

How do I rectify this, or do I need to get new licences, and if so, how do I do that?

Cheers.

What does hkey's diagnostic info say? Run hkey and under the top View menu, choose Diagnostic Information.

Hmmm … Try this: Run hkey and from the top File menu, choose “Change License Server”. Under License server host, change arjuna.kelly.org to just arjuna. After that, click OK and quit hkey. Can you start houdini now?

Hmm … strange …

I changed the licence server as you suggested, stopped and started sesinetd, but still got the same error. I went back into hkey and in the change licence server window clicked on “Local Server” button, which didn't seem to do anything. I stopped and restarted sesinetd, and presto when I ran houdini, it asked if I wanted to install non-commercial licences again, and now I'm up and running again.

Thanks.
The withdrawal symptoms were starting to get bad!

Cheers.

Strange indeed. For the Apprentice, I'm pretty sure that you're only allowed to use a local license server. My guess is that it thought that you were trying to use a non-local license server because the local host name didn't match the license server name. At some point it probably decided that the licenses you had didn't match your server key (because they were generated with arjuna.kelly.org instead of arjuna) and let you get new ones.

Anyhow, I'm glad it's resolved! Any cool renders yet?

Any cool renders yet? I WISH!

I'm just starting with Houdini after having had a major “learning experience” of enrolling in a 3D animation course that taught 3D Studio Max, and the learning experience doesn't mean it was a great course and I learnt alot about 3DS! OMG! Talk about crappy software. But don't get me started. Count to ten. Breathe!

Anyway, I'm here now!

Cheers.
