H22 Muscle Transfer sucks for bones...

I'm trying to transfer bones from Otto to Capybara. Pretty simple stuff, using native Houdini assets. Evidently, when using the muscle transfer node for the bones, it uses the midpoint of each bone to position itself within the new skin... But it won't actually rotate it into place. Which means the top and bottom of each bone in the arms just keep their previous orientation, and penetrate the skin, once transferred. You can see that this also affects the finger joints, and the leg bones are especially heinous, as it doesn't even seem to try to scale them at all. I tried wiring the native joint hierarchies into the second and third inputs of the node, but that didn't do anything of any use. Does anyone know how to get this node to actually do anything useful, for this scenario? I've tried fiddling with all of the options, and reading the docs. Videos I found didn't spend much of any time going over this issue. I'm guessing maybe the native joint hierarchy names aren't matching, even though I would've expected that from native Houdini assets? I'll look into that next, but if anybody has any pointers, that would be much appreciated!

And of course, I can't even seem to use a blast node to reliably delete joints from the otto joint hierarchy. *sigh*

it does that because your bones are packed prims, so technically a single point per bone
to allow your bones to deform and freely conform inside of the body unpack them first

Ah geez, can't believe I didn't think of that, lol. Thanks!

Okay, one more... Running into a problem when using a muscletransfer node to transfer muscles. I've copied the settings from the transfer recipe in H22, for the muscletransfer node. Everything is unpacked. I'm reading a skeleton from an .obj file to use for the interior geometry, but I've stashed the result, so that other people can view it. I've done my best to fix up penetrations in the skin that have been transferred from Otto onto Capybara, and removed the mouth bag and eyeball geometry inside of the head. However, the muscles are just exploding. Would anybody be able to let me know if there's something more I'm missing?...

Your issue is that your source and target bones don't have the same topology. You need to use Otto's bones transferred to Capy as the target bones and Otto's bones as the source bones, or alternatively Capy's bones as the target bones and Capy's bones transferred to Otto as the source bones.

Ah, thanks. I had thought of that being a possibility, but I couldn't find anything in the docs stating that the topology had to match, and the videos I've found don't mention it, so I figured it shouldn't matter. Much appreciated, I'll give that a go a bit later today!

I will look at making it more explicit in the docs. I don't think I said it explicity in my talk either, but I assume you've watched my recently released talk on Muscle Transfer? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itdoaMumS5k [www.youtube.com]
