Hi everyone,

The H22 announcements mentioned something about MCP support to APEX Script, and I'm really interested in trying it out.

I'm having a hard time finding any information about where and how this can currently be accessed.

Is the APEX MCP integration already available somewhere in the Houdini 22 builds, or is it currently limited to an internal / private preview?

If it is available for testing, where can I find it, and what is the recommended way to set it up?

I'd also be interested to know whether there are any plans to make the MCP server itself publicly available, for example as part of Houdini or through a SideFX repository.

Thanks!

I’m interested in this too, especially because MCP with APEX Script could make it much easier to automate parts of a Houdini workflow instead of building everything manually. I’ve seen a few mentions of the integration but haven’t found much concrete information about actually setting it up.

I’m wondering whether it’s already usable in one of the H22 builds or whether it’s still something SideFX is keeping behind the scenes for now. A public MCP server or official repository would be really useful for experimenting with it.

Oh God, mindless bots have made their way to the SideFX forum too. The end of the world is likely near.

When the Apex MCP was announced during the H22 launch event, it was clearly stated it would be a SideFX Labs tool.

https://github.com/sideeffects/SideFXLabs/tree/Development/apexscript_comfort_package [github.com]

It is here, along with more useful tools like a vs code extension.

Details of the commit below.

For some reason it is not mentioned on the Labs roadmap board.

Hopefully the LLM craze passes soon and resources can be spent on more fruitful endeavours.

I must say.. I use a MCP to handle my HomeAssistant home automation at it's amazing! That being said, I've managed it for years by hand and it currently it felt more like a choir then the fun technical puzzle it was in the beginning.

With Claude fixing the errors and adding new automations it complete removed the "yeah, I should fix/add that one day" backlog I couldn't be bothered with.

Lets face it, after 10+ years of working in houdini not every project is an exciting adventure into new grounds, for those jobs I'd love to use some AI/MCP stuff to handle the boring part of the setup.

On the other hand it shouldn't interfere with the fun of making new stuff and joy of discovering new ways.. so it's tricky. Maybe they should only make it available for those with 10+ year old licenses
More code, less clicks.
