I have a technical issue that cannot be diagnosed by the troubleshooting wizard offered on sidefx.com Basically, my license for my previous Houdini Apprentice program, 9.0, expired. When I logged onto sidefx.com, I downloaded the latest version of Apprentice, but the program wouldn't start due to my previous license issue. I have deleted the old version of the software, the 9.0, and retried, and the same problem occurred. Below is the diagnostic information given to me. I have

Problem : cannotstarthoudini
Platform : windows
Using commercial version : no
Can start hkey : yes
Can see sesinetd : yes
Has license(s) for this product : yes
It was working : yes
Has a server license : no
Can anyone help with this problem? I'm a student and my final is due in 1 week and a half.

Hi there
I think your problem has to do with the fact that the license changed with version 9.1. I think you will have to retrieve a new license key for version 9.1 by opening hserver and download the new license key with the username and password you received when you purchased the HD apprentice version

when you are installing 9.1, please make sure you have the administrative privileges so that Houdini License Service process can start up and write to the license file. Then when you start 9.1 for the first time, when it reports that it has no license, it also gives you an option to install the non-commercial license. Choose that and Houdini should install a new apprentice license automatically.
