I'm building a new PC, based on a q6700 cpu with some 4gig of RAM.
I would like to get a geforce 8800gts 512MB DDR3 card.
this card is more or less comparable with a quadro 3700, which is simply to expensive for me. I prefer to invest that money in a nice 24" Panel from EIZO.
I know that Maya will give me headache on that card, but I'm planing to drop it in favour of Houdini9 anyway.
So I read here that there shouldn't be too many issues with these cards on houdini9. Can anybody confirm that?

I read somewhere that the quadro 3700 have 112 parallel processors on it. I guess that means it can do more than a CPU could do with the graphics card across the bus.. Boy, NVidia is really pushing boundaries.. Anyhow, the gaming cards have always been without significant GPU support. I'm using a 6600XT and 9.1 seems to run fine on Ubuntu 7.10 with Pentium D 2.8Ghz and 2.5 gigs RAM. But I'd assume it works okay in windows.. I don't see why someone would need an advanced graphics card anyhow, maybe for fast flipbook renderings unless somehow the graphics card is used in the frame rendering process. How big are your models?
I donated the DEC Alpha Ton made his first 64-bit port of blender to.
Okay if I survive, SideFX has to be pretty cool. Otherwise this is a totalitarian regime.
