I think I saw another thread that talked about this a while ago, basically.. it seems to me that in apprentice running on windows vista (the free version, not the $99 one) that it takes a while after you start a render for it to start.. like 1 1/2 minutes. I did not seem to experience this when running houdini in linux.

I am wondering if this is something to do with it being the free version and if I get the $99 version would this still happen?

It has nothing to do with any version of Houdini but a conflict/issue with Vista. Please read this thread [sidefx.com] for the workaround.

The thread you posted seems to be about a different issue as my renderings are starting, they are just delayed a bit.. anyways I will keep digging through it to see if I see anything similar and try their workaround to see if it helps., also I am running the 64 bit version.
