how to make the effect of sands falling in to a hole

I use a grid and hole sop to make that effect, but the particles act so strange. Does anyone have other way to make the effect like that ?

I tried to make another file to do the effects I want, but it still looks ugly. does anyone have other way or thinking to do this?
