rusty metal flickering issue

hello all,
would anyone be able to verify that if you create a sphere, set it to poly mesh, increase rows and columns… or use nurbs… what have you, then apply the rusty metal shader… then animate the sphere… something simple like translate the sphere from 3 down to 0… and render it… the texture flickers… it's as though the procedural pattern changes. it seems as though the basic “pattern mask” where the rust is at, stays locked, and the rest of the metal stays locked, but the actual texture of the rust itself, changes a bit… and only in particular spots…

i've tried things like, adding a point sop, and applying normals. adding a rest position sop after the sphere… and that's about all.

thoughts on what's going on?
