After a bit more googling,I followed this tutorial [www.youtube.com] from John Lynch on the Houdini channel where he attached a null to the noise at sop level. Then he referenced it in the vellum solver using a vellum constraint property, then added some vex
float scale = fit01(rand(@primnum),0.25, 0.65);
int pt = primpoints(0, @primnum);
float amount = point(2, "amount", pt);
restscale = amount;
After following it all the points in my scene only shrinks :/ They are not even getting affected by the noise.

Hello, I have scattered spheres inside a tube and I want to use a noise to trigger them inflating and deflating. How would I be able to manipulate the noise to trigger the vellum sim?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » How to assign randomize color to primitives using a ramp?

Hi guys,
I have a pig head which I have fractured and packed, I am trying to randomize the color of each chunk by using a attribute random on the Cd, and a color node with a ramp from attribute after.
The problem is that the color node doesn't assign the new colors to each chunk of the pig head, it mostly "overlays" it.
Thanks!

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » How to combine vellum and rigid body?

Hello,
I have a scene where I have a bunch of USB cables swaying in the wind, naturally only the cables bend, fold and sway, not the USB head themselves. So I was wondering if it was possible to have the USB heads be rigid bodies, so that they still interact with everything while retaining its shape.

don't know....but i still had a go, would be polite if you upload your file so people can deal with the exact situation rather than spending time mocking up $hit that you may reply with...well that's not what I have...and so it goes back and forth...just time wasting
seriously, don't be offended, your file is just some RnD...stop worrying about losing IP
Thanks for helping out, thankfully somebody on another forum answered my question. They mentioned to add a pop wrangle after the pop wind, with v@targetv.y=0; seemed to do the trick!

Hello,
I have a scene where I am emitting circles where a POP wind is creating the noise, but I want to be able to limit it only on the Z and X axis.
How would I achieve this?

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » How do I change the 'seed' of popwind?

animatrix_
Hi,
It's just curl noise so there is no seed. The nearest equivalent operation is to change the offset to sample a different part of the noise field.
Thank you! It's exactly what I need.

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » How to align normals of object to copy to points?

I managed to do it, but I originally wanted to have the points I scattered at the center of each primitive to the same. I think it's because the points I am scattering don't have normals, so I'm confused on how would I implement that.

Hello,
I have a basic question, I have a cube and I want to scatter it around a sphere. The issue is that the cubes don't face towards the center of the sphere.

That's because the points position is really a vector to world origin - hence it can be treated like a direction.
Hope I don't sound condenscending but just do a bit of research in math on the topic of vectors in math:
In the example hip you were given the circle starts with a radius of one - so the @P will be already 'normalized'.
Try the example with the circle say at a scale of 50 and use the same @v = @P, then look at the results with @v = normalize(@P). Or even then try @v = @P * 50.
Hopefully with your reference to some math topic you found you might get a better understanding of vectors - direction and magnitude, and take advantage of looking at a points position in terms of being a vector too - you can be more 'creative' in your work.
Not at all, I appreciate all the help I can get. I'll research more about the topic you mentioned. Do you have any references/recommendations I can read?
Thanks for the explanation!

This kinda thing?
Hi Man, Thanks again for the help.
May I ask, how does @v = @P work? I'm a bit confused on how just by making the vector equal the points position, is responsible for making the rings expand.

Hello, I am trying to re-create an effect from a ManvsMachine video [vimeo.com]. Time stamp (00.07 - 00.09)
I followed a Entagma [www.youtube.com] tutorial since it was the closest thing I could find, so far I can emit circles but they are not 'expanding'. How would I achieve this effect?
So far this is what my setup looks like,
