For example
void rotate(&m, amount, axis)
I used to know it 6 months ago, I even made a note on it but now I can't find that note.

My own Radeon VII drivers don't allow it to be used for the viewport/Scene View in Houdini. It works well for OpenCL in Pyro and Flip simulations but the AMD CPU OpenCL drivers are a bit screwed up for openVDB in the Scene window. You'll have problems with adjusting density down. Other than that no complaints. Runs cool and silent.I tried fixing this in the Environment Settings too but Houdini just reverted to the CPU automatically.
Sorry to bump up this old thread but I spent too much time today wrestling with this so I just had to vent somewhere and what better place than here?

Custom markers have been replaced by Visualizers. They have their own tab now in the display options (“Visualizers”).
Thanks for this. I very much appreciate it.

any modeler worth their salt would still not consider Houdini for modeling.
Fact.
That may have been true in the past, but I don't think that's necessarily going to be true in the future or even in the present.

Here's how I usually do this sort of snapping.
Hello @DaJuice,
How to you call polyextrude and just keep the translate gizmo, I want that all the time instead dive into polyextrude option to enable global transform, then translate tool.
Hi julca, for any operator you can click on the little cog wheel at the top of the parameter window and Set Permanent Defaults. So set down an unwired PolyExtrude, change it to Global Transform and then set that as the new permanent default.
That's fantastic. Thanks a lot.

Fabrizio123, I could not find the Maya video you were referring to, do you have a link? Here's how I usually do this sort of snapping.
I'll admit that I prefer this aspect of Maya, mostly because of the availability of sticky keys for snapping and detaching handles (and sensibly placed hotkeys for them!). I filed an RFE for this in 2014, and then again in 2018 because I forgot about the first submission. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has asked for better sticky key support.
Thanks DaJuice. The video series by Pixelbahn is here
https://youtu.be/Pnzy3YouTYA [youtu.be]
In all his Maya modeling tutorials he has all these snapping tricks that are very useful.
I'm just going to have to study Houdini harder, that's all.

The attached video shows how to handle this - You can move the pivot point on the polyextrude handle to the end of the selected edge either using the RMB menu as shown in the video or you can press the INSERT key to detach - snap the handle to the endpoint and INSERT again to extrude with snapping now set up in the correct location.
Wow, thanks very much for your video. Much appreciated.

Personally, I'm with Midphase on this. Marketing is everything especially at this point in its development. Zbrush has always updated freely to its buyers and that has served them well; they rule their market against all competitors, even with Zbrush's drawbacks. I'm waiting for a proper tutorial and documentation set before I drop $100 on this and I'm crazy for it. I simply don't have the time to try to blunder through on my own discovering tool functionality.

I'd love to have someone show me that Houdini snapping tools aren't insufficient
so I can model in Houdini. There's one snapping tutorial out there, this one;
https://youtu.be/koskzm8XQqU [youtu.be]
Sorry, this just isn't good enough.
I've examined the documentation and controls and frankly it's totally inadequate compared to Maya's snapping tools. Refer to Pixelbahn's You Tube videos where he displays a real mastery over snapping in Maya. It would be nice if there was a way to snap this extruded primitive to the next point in the extrusion's direction for example.
It wouldn't take much to turn Houdini into a top quality subd polygonal modeling package, particularly as I love the entire node network mode of working.
